Nice/Romantic dinner near Walnut Street Theatre

I would like to find a nice romantic dinner near the Walnut Street Theatre before the show. I would like to go to Le Bec Fin but might be out of my $130 budget for dinner.

If there is a BYOB restaurant near there it would nice

Some of the restaurants on my short list so far include:

These all might be out of the way from the Theatre:

RAE

Tinto

Bistro St Tropaz

L2

Water Works

Ly Micheals

Any help would be appreciate and I would like to thank the Destination Experts for Philly, you are very helpful

Except for Ly Michaels, none of those are anywhere near the Walnut Street Theatre. Haven%26#39;t been to Ly Michaels, so I can%26#39;t comment, but here is a link to a usually reliable local paper%26#39;s review: www.philadelphiaweekly.com/view.php?id=8178

I can%26#39;t think of anything overly romantic in the immediate area. You may want to check out Caribou Cafe. Feels like a French cafe.

here is a recent thread on this topic. You may want to check if the Oceanaire still offers a $30 prix fixe pretheater menu.

Also its a few blocks farther on 12th st, but Les Bons Temps just got a decent write up in the Inquirer, might be fun if you like Creole/Cajun cuisine, and they apparently allow BYOB midweek

It may not be as cozy and romantic, but for the Carnivore within you there is Fogo De Chao, an all you can eat Brazilian BarBQ. Also near there is Joe Pesce, which was very good for lunch (have not had dinner yet).

Faugo De Chao is something i was thinking about because on August 8th they are giving out 50 % off gift certificates

Also there are some decent restaurants on restaurants.com that offer huge savings like L2, Bistro St Tropaz and Good Dog

I really did enjoy fogo, but just a warning, you will be sitting in the theater with a good portion of a cow in your tummy. If you haven%26#39;t been to a Brazilian BBQ like this, the best way I can describe it is a Carnival of Meat.

I agree that fogo is not the ideal pre-theater choice. It%26#39;s much better enjoyed over a long evening when you can pace yourself, then stretch out.

I agree for pre-theater Fogo is not the right choice. Good Dog, about a 10 block walk from the Walnut St, is a pub ...that%26#39;s kind of a far cry from your original idea of Le Bec Fin...Bistro St. Tropez is not near the theater and probably would not be on the recommended list anyway...Ly Michaels appears to be in Chinatown so that might be an OK choice from location view, though I don%26#39;t know much about the place. There are plenty of other restaurants in Chinatown ...

Back to earlier posts, I would take a good look at Caribou Cafe, close to the theater and their prix fixe pre-theater dinner is $29. http://www.cariboucafe.com/

rocknroll%26#39;s suggestion of Oceanaire is also excellent, one of the most beautiful rooms in the city.

Thank you for all you suggestions. I think the Caribou Cafe will be the place to go and it%26#39;s super close to the theater

Thanks Again

john

If you are still open for suggestions, I%26#39;d like to recommend a few others. Caribou and Fogo are fun and cool places, but I would not put them in the category of romantic dining.

There are a few places toward the other direction (east) of Walnut Street Theater that may be worth consideration:

Positano Coast (212 Walnut St). Nice authentic Italian restaurant with a balcony view-- indoor and outdoor seating. If you don%26#39;t want to walk to the theater, there%26#39;s a cab stand around the corner at the Society Hill Sheraton.

At Penn%26#39;s landing, there is Keating%26#39;s River Grill in the Hyatt Hotel. It%26#39;s reasonably priced and has some great window-side tables with a view of the river. There is also patio dining. There%26#39;s also a cab stand at the front of the hotel.

Also at Penn%26#39;s Landing (near Keating%26#39;s) is The Moshulu-- an old ship that%26#39;s been refurbished. Dining outisde on the deck is casual and a little more noisier; the inside dining hall is much more private and personal. But they%26#39;re only a few inside tables that have a view of the river. It%26#39;s probably the priciest of these three restaurants.

FYI: Two of my favorite pre-theater restaurants are at Broad %26amp; Locust-- ';Upstares at Varelli%26#39;s'; and ';Academy Cafe'; (mezzanine level of the DoubleTree Hotel). Their settings are also romantic. They%26#39;re a longer walk from Walnut Street Theater, but about the same distance as Le Bec Fin.
