Afternoon in Philadelphia - What to see?

I%26#39;ll be working in a suburb of Philadelphia in the next couple of weeks and will be passing through the city on my way back to the airport with a few hours to spare.

I%26#39;ll be arriving via train (30th street station) and am after some advice on what to see with my spare hours in the city, all ideally within walking distance of the station.

Advice appreciated

Thanks

It kind of depends on how many hours you have and what time of day exactly.

Strictly within walking distance there are no official historic sites, but you can walk down to the Rittenhouse Square area or over to the Penn campus.

If the timing is right, you could get to the historic area, but that%26#39;s why I was asking about the amount of time, etc.

Apologies, should have been a little more detailed.

I%26#39;ll hopefully be arriving into the city late morning, around 10.30/11, I have a flight to catch at 8.30pm so will be looking to leave with enough time to make it to the airport to check-in etc.

That should give you plenty of time. You don%26#39;t say how you will be arriving at 30th Street, but if it is by SEPTA train, get off at Market East instead (or if other means, take a SEPTA train to Market East from 30th). Market East puts you around 11th %26amp; Market. There, you have the Reading Termnal Market. 5 blocks to the east is Independence Mall, where you can easily see Independence Hall (1 block south to Chestnut Street), and the Liberty Bell. You can also hit Franklin Court. There%26#39;s plenrty more to see in that area as well, but when you are ready to go the the airport, make yoru way back to the Market East station and catch a SEPTA R1 train to the airport. It%26#39;s about a 30 minute trip from market East, and the trains run twice an hour.
