Can anyone recommend a vaguely Mediterranean (Italian, Greek, Middle Eastern, Spanish) restaurant that is good but not too pricey (under $40 per person including tax and tip but not including drinks) within walking distance of Independence Park?
Thanks for the Fairmount restaurant recommendations. But as this trip is evolving, it%26#39;s looking as though we might grab something quick and easy near the PATCO station at 15th and Locust tomorrow and then head toward the fireworks and concert on foot.
Probably we will plan instead to have a nicer meal after seeing some of the historic attractions on Saturday evening, and I want to pick a place now to call for reservations.
Thanks again!

Zahav, excellent Israeli, $40 should be about right if you get every course, but I usually skip one course, but don%26#39;t forego the hummus. The Turkish hummus is unusual, served warm, made with butter instead of olive oil. http://www.zahavrestaurant.com/
Tangerine, my favorite restaurant in Old City. $40 is possible if you order carefully and do some sharing, which they encourage. http://www.tangerinerestaurant.com/
Amada, one of the hottest restaurants in town now. Tapas, so whether you make it under $40 depends on how you order. Reservations may be impossible at this point, but I mention it just in case. http://www.amadarestaurant.com/

I ignored Italian in my previous post, and it%26#39;s probably easier to stay under $40 with these so I%26#39;ll mention a few.
My favorite Italian in Old City is Spasso, no frills, very reasonable. http://www.spassoitaliangrill.com/
If you go to the South Street area, Hosteria da Elio is a good choice. It%26#39;s BYOB, so drinks aren%26#39;t an option unless you carry your own. I love their sweet potato gnocchi. …menupages.com/restaurantdetails.asp…
Right on South St. and further from Independence Park, but still walkable is Core de Roma.

It%26#39;s not quite Middle Eastern, but Ariana serves delicious Afghan food. BYOB. 100 block of Chestnut.
