My husband and I are planning a weekend in Phila. at the end of July to see Mamma Mia at a Sunday matinee.
We%26#39;re staying at the Warwick and were looking forward to dinner at Melograno on Saturday night. Just found out that it%26#39;s closed (temporarily? forever?) so now we%26#39;re at a loss as to where to eat. What do you suggest as a comparable (in price, location, etc) alternative?
(We don%26#39;t want to pay LeBecFin $%26#39;s; would love a BYO; would be nice if it were in walking distance of the Warwick; and taking reservations would be a real plus.)
Thanks in advance for any/all suggestions!!
Melograno's closed; now what? Are you looking for the same general food type, or something more general?
Prime Rib in the Warwick itself is very good, if a little pricey.
A little bit of a walk (6 blocks) is Davios.. http://www.davios.com/Philly.htm (also recommended for a post-show snack).
Melograno's closed; now what?Branzino, another Italian BYOB, would be a good alternative. http://www.branzinophilly.com/index.html
Ernesto%26#39;s 1521 is not a BYOB, but I understand they do not charge a corkage fee if you bring your own wine. http://www.ernestos1521.com/
Salento on Walnut near 24th is an excellent BYOB serving authentic Tuscan food. The only negative is that it gets a bit noisy because the decor is so stark.
Ernesto%26#39;s on the 1500 block of Pine is also excellent and not as loud.

Branzino is excellent, resonably priced, a BYOB, and very close to The Warwick. Make reservations well in advance, and allow extra time. It%26#39;s a small place and they can run behind.
Melograno%26#39;s will be closing as of July 27th and reopening in a new location at 2010 Sansom St. in September.
Why don%26#39;t you check out Audrey Claire a good BYOB on 20th and Spruce, just a few blocks from Melograno

Wow! Just posted my question about Melograno alternatives earlier today and already 5 responses. Thanks for all the great suggestions ~ my mouth was watering just reading the various menus so don%26#39;t think we%26#39;ll have any problem with choosing a Melograno alternative.
(Thought you Philadelphia TA%26#39;s would be interested to know that I%26#39;ve posted 2 guestions on the Chicago forum pages for a trip my husband and I will be taking in the Fall and have yet to hear from a single Chicago TA! I knew I could count on Philadelphia!!)
