is the place gonna be a nuthouse?(as in lotsa people)
july 3 in Gettysburg
I%26#39;ve spent the July 4th holiday and the preceding battle anniversary in Gettysburg only once, and yes, it was crazy. This year, with the 4th falling on a Friday and being the 1st day of the annual reenactments, I would guess the town will be packed. A word of advice for anyone visiting during this weekend...figure out which restaurants you want to get into and call or e-mail them NOW for a reservation. We learned the hard way! :)
july 3 in Gettysburg
thanks, i am only going to be there for the day july 3 i will be coming from martinsburg area and going home to johnstown area in the evening
yup, a bloody nut-house
I have heard from a source they expect 13,000 for the reinactment. That is way more than usual. Most of us locals dont leave the house or we go away! Except the reinactor locals! Personally I think the crowds are exciting. Going into town for ice cream make it really feel like a vacation for 1 hour!
I%26#39;ll be there all weekend! This is our first reenactment, so I%26#39;m hoping the weather holds out. The crowds don%26#39;t bother me too much. We%26#39;ve been there several times so we%26#39;re not trying to cram too much into our long weekend b/c we are expecting it to be crazy!
It will be crazy, but the 3rd will probably be the best day in terms of crowds. The worst spots will be the area around the reenactment, the square, and the new visitors center.
I will say this. I saw more tourbusses today then usual and some I never saw before. Maybe they had to break out the reserves. All buses were full too. Especially the top decks.
There is also a lacrosse tournament at the college - July 2-July 5, 2008.
For sure the college is busy but those guys are just walking through the college area. Makes for some nice scenery ;) when you tire of monuments. LOL I have heard from people involved with the reinactment people will start seting up camp as soon as tommorow.
