I%26#39;m staying for a week at the Alexander inn. Noticed on the cab ride in last night some prostitutes on the streets around the hotel. How safe is it walking in this area at night? What should I do/not do to stay safe.

Area near Alexanders
The area is very safe. It is smack in the middle of Philadelpbhia%26#39;s gayborhood, so it tends to be well-populated and interesting. Also, on a recent Saturday night there was a very large police presence in the area, but I%26#39;m not sure why. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary (for that area, anyway).
Regarding the prostitutes- there haven%26#39;t been any in that area for years. You probably saw transvestites and thought they were prostitutes. Let me guess- short loud dresses, done up hair/wigs, lots of makeup, long legs that are just a little too nice... Does that sound like what you saw?
