hotel after wachovia center concert

Hi. I am hoping someone can give me some insight as to where to stay after a concert at the Wachovia center this July. After the concert, we might want to have a drink or two in a nice bar and it would be nice if we could park the car at the hotel after the concert and walk to bar area. I have checked hotwire and would center city east or penn%26#39;s landing be a good safe area to have a drink after the show. Also, does anyone have any idea how the traffic will be after the concert to get back to the hotel?

thanks in advance for any help!

Any hotel in Center City (East or West) would be an excellent choice. I suggest not driving to the Wachovia Center, as traffic leaving can be pretty bad, especially if there are other events at the ballpark or the Spectrum (they are all adjacent). You can take the subway to and from the game. As to hotel location, there are a few things you should know, only because of where the subway is in relation to the hotels. The subway runs under Broad Street, (which is equivalent to 14th Street), and the stop you can reach from the street is at Walnut Street. So, if your hotel is at 4th and Chestnut, that%26#39;s an 11 block (about 1 mile) walk (10 blocks from 4th to Broad, plus 1 block from Chestnut to Walnut). You can also take the Market-Frankford line from 2nd %26amp; Market or 5th %26amp; Market to the City Hall Station, and transfer to the Broad Street line there.

Penn%26#39;s Landing is not the most convenient location to town, but it%26#39;s not bad. There is the Doubletree, which is right at Broad and Walnut, which is centrally located in Center City, and gives you great access to the subway.

As to where to have a nice drink- there are dozens of places that will do. Crowds tend to cluster in age groups, so if you give us your age group, we can make appropriate suggestions.

Hi -

If you give me your date(s) of stay, I%26#39;ll assist with identifying the hotels you are considering on Hotwire. The Old Town (really Old City)/Penn%26#39;s Landing area is fine for fun and drinks after the concert - even if you get the Hyatt Regency, which is a few blocks of a walk to Old City, you%26#39;ll still be fine. Let me know if you need help.

We are both 35 and staying in Philly on 7/26 only. I guess I need to figure out what hotels are close to the subway if we take that back to the hotel after the concert. Thank you for your time!

Are you seeing George Michael? The Holiday Inn, 900 PACKER AVE, is close by and I know other fans are staying there as well. Enjoy the show

The hotels close to the Wachovia Center are not very nice. I would avoid them.

I agree with Owlyn, those hotels over by the stadium are mediocre at best. I%26#39;d stay in Center City and take the subway in.

I checked on Hotwire for the night of 7/26 and found 2 hotels that may work for you. There is a 4* in Center City East for $134/night and a 3* in Center City East as well for $89/night. The 4* looks to be the Westin and the 3* the Hilton Garden Inn. Not sure how much you want to spend...and another poster could help with how to get to the subway for the game - I%26#39;m clueless when it comes to public transporation that%26#39;s not in the form of a taxi!

Let me know if you have additional questions.

Also, I can help if you want to bid on Priceline - you might be able to get the Westin for around $90-100/night and the Hilton as low as $60...let me know if you want to try the bidding process. It is riskier, but if you%26#39;re interested, I%26#39;ll explain how to proceed.

still trying to decide....any idea what the 3.5 star in center city east for $115 might be. Any thoughts on the Sheraton Society Hill in Penn%26#39;s Landing...I think this is the hotel for $94 on hotwire. Reviews say lots of restaurants nearby. If I choose a hotel in Penn%26#39;s Landing is the subway still a possibility to get to Wachovia Center or would a cab be easier?? I checked and there is a Phillies home game at 3:55pm on 7/26. I wouldn%26#39;t think this would affect getting out of concert around 10pm or later if we decide to take our car would it?? Any rough idea how long it would take to get out of parking lot H back to Center city east hotel?? Thanks for all of your responses!

The Society Hill Sheraton is in a great location for bars and restaurants. Forget taking a cab to the Wachovia Center, as you will find it very difficult to get one coming back. So few people take cabs in that area that there are no cabs cruising around there. It would also be a little tough to take the subway from that hotel. Your best bet in this case would be to drive. You could drive down Delaware Avenue (Columbus Blvd) to Pattison Ave up to the stadium area. It%26#39;s about a 5-10 minute drive. The Phillies game should be long gone by the time the concert is over.

We are going to the Police concert on Tuesday and I just found out that a friend booked us at the Ramada Philadelphia Airport in Essington (?!).

Three questions:

-- Anyone been there? The reviews suggest it%26#39;s not a great idea.

-- Any alternative recommendations that won%26#39;t require driving?

-- Neither of us want to drive, which means we%26#39;d have to take a cab. What are the odds we%26#39;d be able to find a cab outside the stadium after the show. Slim to none, right?

A thousand and one thanks for opinions and recommendations...
