Can anyone provide information on a nice, clean, affordable hotel near the Childrens Hospital? Ideally we (2 adults) would like to keep it under $100/night as this is a last minute trip and really didn%26#39;t budget for it. There may not be something within walking distance, so what do you think an average cab/bus fare would run?
Thanks

Philly is home to the original Ronald McDonald House.
They have 2 houses in the city, one at 39th %26amp; Chestnut %26amp; the other at Front %26amp; Erie. They also have day rooms at CHOP for families who are using the facilities.
http://www.philarmh.org/Chestnut_Street The Chestnut St house is the first R McD House.
From their site:
';Who Stays At Our House?
Families who...
* Live more than 25 miles from the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House
* Have a child under 22 years of age
* Have a child receiving active inpatient or active outpatient treatment at a local Philadelphia hospital';
If this is you, give them a call. They are there to help.
Hotels in the area are not cheap %26amp; you will have a hard time finding places under $100 --- it is a major city %26amp; all that. Philly does have good public transportation %26amp; R M House will be able to answer questions about that, too. You can also visit the SEPTA website for maps, routes, schedules etc. That is South East PA Transit Auth. Use Google to get to it.
I do hope all will turn out well for you!

Thanks for the info. My brother and his wife had to relocate to Philly for a while and will be staying at the Ronald McDonald House at some point. But I didn%26#39;t know that it was open to non-patient families.
Thanks again!
If that doesn%26#39;t work out, contact CHOP and see if they can accommodate you in the Penn Tower hotel. Most of the building is office space but there is still 2 floors reserved for UPHS/CHOP patient families.
Aside from that, there%26#39;s the Inn at Penn on 36th/Sansom and Sheraton on 38th/Market(ish). Those won%26#39;t be cheap...walking distance if you don%26#39;t mind a mile. There isn%26#39;t much for hotels.
That said, a taxi fare from a city hotel to CHOP will run around $8-12 each way. You can take an R1,R2,R3 train that stops at University City for 3.50 pp - but they don%26#39;t always check for tickets so it could be free. Market/Frankford EL can be taken to 34th Street then walk to CHOP, about 3/4 mile. Bus Route 42 will drop you off at 34th/Spruce - they may have also added a new stop in front of CHOP but I can%26#39;t be sure...
The Sheraton in University City often comes up on Hotwire for under $100/night. Depends on your dates of stay, of course - if you provide when you are coming to Philly, perhaps I can assist in locating something for you in your price range.

Ronald McDonald House *is* meant for relatives of patients!----sorry, I misunderstood your question -- thought you had a child going to that hospital! YOu need to live more than 25 miles from the hospital in question, and have a person under 22 in treatment there, as outpatient or inpatient. I%26#39;m sure if you are an aunt, uncle, or grandparent, etc., bringing in the child %26amp; not the parent, it is not an issue.
You might consider staying at a Bed %26amp; Breakfast, such as this one: http://www.tradewindsbedandbreakfast.com/
It is not within walking distance, but right on the #40 bus line and about a 15 minute ride to CHOP. I%26#39;m not really familiar with the B%26amp;B, but have dealt with the owner, Marjorie, in another capacity, and can assure you that she is lovely to deal with.
You might find something using Hotwire.com.

As someone above mentioned, contact the hospital directly. They often have deals with hotels for discounted rates.
For example, even though it was not necessarily close, they had a $129 per night rate in the Residence Inn center city for a while, for those who needed extended stays it was $79 per night.
Thanks again for all the information. We%26#39;ll be there from 8/6 thru 8/11. I%26#39;m leaning towards the Sheraton-Society Hill Hotel based on the reviews I%26#39;ve seen. Priceline is showing $179. Hotwire (never used them before) is showing $102 for a 3.5-star hotel in Center City West. At what point during the reservations process would I know if the Sheraton would be one of the hotels?
I will also contact CHOP about their hotel deals.
Thanks.
If you give me the amenities listed for the 3.5 * hotel on Hotwire (pool, restaurant, etc...), I can positively id that (Hotwire) hotel for you.
