On our way home from NY, we will be stopping for a night in Philly. This will be our 19th anniversary and we wanted something memorable. We will have our kids (14 and 9) and were looking for something with adult food -- less of a chicken nugget type menu.
We would like any type of food except Chinese.
What is a fun, medium priced restaurant that shows the flair of Philadelphia?
Anniversary dinner in Philadelphia
Tough question...most of the restaurants that really show Philly%26#39;s food flair are not in the moderate category. I think your best bet would be to choose one of the more moderately priced restaurants in the Stephen Starr restaurant group, such as El Vez (Mexican) or Jones (American Comfort Food) or the Continental Midtown (gloabl tapas). Even these are on the more expensive side of moderate.

Here a few suggestions:
Matyson - New American BYOB in the Rittenhouse area.
The Standard Tap - brew pub in Northern Liberties
Continental (in Old City) or Continental Midtown (near Rittenhouse Square) - fusion
Monk%26#39;s - Belgian with the most amazing beer menu.
Philadelphia Fish %26amp; Co. - in Old City. Not as innovative as the others but always very good
Also, There is a good number of really good red gravy Italian restaurants in South Philly. I%26#39;ll let others add their two cents on those.
If none of menus suites you we can come up with more suggestions. Philly is a great food town!

I just noticed all my typos! I should save typing and proofing for later in the day.
I think Lynn%26#39;s suggestion of Italian in South Philly is excellent: moderately priced, family-friendly, and evoking the Philadelphia of a certain famous movie. Villa de Roma is the quintessential red-gravy place in the Italian Market. If you choose to go there, take cash as they don%26#39;t accept credit cards. (It%26#39;s that old-time.)
Another vote for Villa di Roma - I love the place!

A few really good BYOB/moderate restaurants:
Raddichhio 4th and wood?
La Viola - 16th and spruce
Tequilla%26#39;s not BYOB, but moderate and very yummy
Restaurante del Ghittone - BYOB Italian
Vietnam - great Vietnamese food,
Tiffin - Indian 8th and Girard
Bar Ferdinand - tapas - if you have a big appetite, can be pricey, but great food like Amada, and cheaper
I love to eat out with friends so feel free to PM me for aother suggestions.
Philly has great food and a great restaurant scene! Enjoy!
