We will be in town for a Steelers game Sept. 7. We are not wanting to rent a car. Do either of these hotels offer shuttle service to and from the game? Does one have better location? Or one better overall?
Thanks
Angie
Double Tree or Hilton shuttle to Game???
Both these hotels are a pleasant 20-30 minute walk to Heinz Field. I don%26#39;t know about a shuttle but I don%26#39;t think that would save you any time...it would probably take longer. The Hilton is getting terrible reviews lately on this site.
Go...Steelers? Oops, you%26#39;re from Texas. Welcome anyway!
Double Tree or Hilton shuttle to Game???
LOL, yes I%26#39;m from Texas but my husband has been a Steelers fan since he was little. He has always wanted to see a game in Pittsburgh. And his 35th birthday is that weekend. I%26#39;m surprising him w/ this trip. It just worked out even better that the Texans were in town playing.
I%26#39;ve pretty much decided on the Double Tree. How hard would it be to get to Station Square and take the across. Does the ferry drop off close to the field?
Yes, again the Doubletree is about a 20-minute walk to Station Square, where you catch the Gateway Clipper. It%26#39;s a nice way to get to the game. The hotel will be able to give you directions. Here%26#39;s a link with info. http://www.gatewayclipper.com/
Downtown is across a bridge from the North Side, where the Steelers and Pirates play. There is a group of hotels/restaurants in downtown right across the bridge. The Doubletree is a little set apart from that. It%26#39;s a nice hotel.
I will be at the first game myself - my brother usually takes me because it is near my birthday. It is almost always beautiful weather. Hope it holds this year!
To make it easy, the DoubleTree (we%26#39;ve stayed there three times) has a shuttle that will take you anywhere inside the Triangle (not across the rivers). You can have them drop you off down towards the Point and walk.
OR, the DT is directly across from a ';T'; station (subway) where you can catch a train and be at Station Square in 5 minutes.
Personally, I would not walk from the DT to Station Square, but that%26#39;s me.
Thanks for all your help. I think we%26#39;ll probably take the ';T'; to station square and the ferry across the river. Should we start early? Maybe take the ';T'; down get our ferry tickets and eat breakfast at Station Square.
I picked the Double Tree because I get really good rates for the Hilton family hotels and it seems to be getting better reviews than the Hilton Pittsburgh. Although I%26#39;d rather have the Hilton%26#39;s location.
Angie
The Hilton is still in the middle of a renovation and about 20 percent of the rooms are unavailable from what I read last week.
I would go over to Station Square early. They usually have some things going on and you can grab a bite and soak up some atmosphere, then catch the Gateway Clipper over.
Go Steelers!
