Food near baseball stadium

We hope to take in a Phillies game while there on August 8. Any suggestions for food near the ballpark--taking into account that we will have been sight-seeing all day and dressed for the game, not fine dining.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Try Chickie and Petes, about three blocks from the stadium, Crab fries and a little bit of everything. Depending on what you are looking for there are many options in the area. Let us know what your favorites are.

Personally, I would just eat in the ballpark (rated #1 in the nation by Food Network). There are 2 steak sandwich shops (Ricks and Tony Lukes), Seasons Pizza and Planet Hoagie in Ashburn Alley, as well as Bull%26#39;s Barbeque (my recommendation), which is run by and often staffed by former Phil Greg Luzinski. In addition, there are the usual hot dogs, hamburgers (those I might skip).

Other options include crab fries, funnel cake, and of course, overpriced beer.

Ashburn Alley opens at least 1 hour before game time.

Thanks, Bucksjoe and Loonbeam--we may just eat at the ballpark. We appreciate the suggestions.

Almost forgot, there is also McFadden%26#39;s pub at the ballpark, which opens even earlier depending on game time.

Your%26#39;re certainly better off eating at the ballpark. I took a friend of mine from out of town to Chickie%26#39;s N Pete%26#39;s back in February (first time for both of us) and I must say we were quite disappointed.

We both tried the shrimp caesar salad (cooked differently) and the crab fries but they were both terrible. I couldn%26#39;t even eat the shrimp on my salad as their dressings as disgusting (and I tried more than one).

I was looking forward to find out what all the fuzz was about regarding the ';crab fries'; but we were both very surprised to find out that they%26#39;re just regulas french fries with some Old Bay seasoning on them. And yet, the price for all the items were not much different than a fine restaurant%26#39;s in old city. We ended up paying almost $40 for 2 salads and 1 fry -no drinks-. For a sports bar outside the ballpark, this is quite pricey.

I%26#39;d eat at the ballpark too. Don%26#39;t settle for a usual hot dog, though. Get a Schmitter. It%26#39;s a sandwich that sounds odd, but it is delicious - sliced beef with cheese, fried onions, tomato, salami and their special secret Schmitter sauce on a Kaiser roll. I%26#39;m starving thinking about one right now!

And I love the crab fries from Chickie and Pete%26#39;s and have never had a bad batch. Sorry that the above poster had such a poor experience, but that can happen anywhere. I wouldn%26#39;t let it deter you - those fries are delicious.

If you want something different than the Schmitter, the roast pork sandwiches with broccoli rabe and sharp provolone from Tony Luke%26#39;s are amazing as well.

Enjoy!

Suzanne

If you want to try the crab fries, they have them in the stadium in Ashburn Alley. If you go to McFadden%26#39;s, I%26#39;m a fan of the cheesesteak nachos.
