A day in Gettysburg with small children

My husband and I are planning a day trip from Hershey to Gettysburg this week. We have 3 children under 4 (girl-4, boy-2, boy-1). I am afraid a guided tour would be too long for them--but we really want to see a few things there since we have never been.

Does anyone have a suggestion for how we can make this work? And are there any good parks nearby that we can play at afterward OR other activities that might suit their age group?

A day in Gettysburg with small children

Hi there... Gettysburg has a Rec Park with playground equipment. If any of your kids like trains, there%26#39;s the Lincoln Train Museum. Lots and lots of trains. Outside of town, there%26#39;s the Land of Little Horses- I haven%26#39;t been there myself yet, but I%26#39;ve heard from folks who enjoyed it. Your best bet might be to walk around town- stopping for ice cream or drinks- and letting them run off some excess energy on the Battlefields. The scenic railway gets bed reviews, but if just riding a train is exciting to your kids, it would work. The All-Star Complex has an arcade with ball pit, but you can see an arcade anywhere- right? Good luck, and if I think of anything else, I%26#39;ll add it.

I got browsing and saw there is a Boyds Bear Country--it looked cute. Does anyone have an experience there?

Boyds will keep young kids entertained. They don%26#39;t have activities, just displays, but wandering around might keep them happy. There is a bear factory where they can make their own bear, but it%26#39;s a tad expensive.

The other place is called Explore and More. It%26#39;s a house turned educational play area that has art centers, dressup, games, science activities, etc.

Very good thought! We%26#39;ve been to Explore and More for birthday parties and the kids loved it! Good suggestion Imalocal! My seven year old reports that Boyd%26#39;s was cool, everything you saw was teddybears.

We might definitely have to give that a shot! Thanks so much for your suggestions! I think we have changed our plans to make Gettysburg a stop on our way to D.C. where we will stay the other half of our trip. So, hopefully between Boyds Bears, the battle field, and the Explore museum our day will be filled and we can be on our way! :)
