Day Trip to NYC

We will be in Philly for a couple of days and would like to do a day trip to NYC as we have never been there.

Any recommendations on transportation? And do you think it would be worth the time/money for only 8 hours or so?

Advice and opinions please...

I think if you want to see NYC it is perfectly doable for a day trip. Plan something fun like seeing a show on Broadway.

In addition to the information about Amtrak that Rocknroll52 refers you to, Amtrak is offering a special rate for travel between NYC and Philly for Saturday travel, $36 each way. You can get details on Amtrak%26#39;s web page. Click Hot Deals, then Advertised Specials.

spend the night in NYC---it will be worth the money--so much to do and see. Just walking around is great.

Please, please, please check out megabus.com. They have insanely cheap rates, depending on the dates. For instance, I checked a week ago for a round trip fare from Philadelphia to NY and it was only $8.50 total/person. Depending on what times you leave (usually the earliest and latest departures), are the cheapest at literally a whole dollar each way, plus a 0.50 surcharge. Check it out!
