Hi all. We%26#39;re coming in for a Friday night Pirates game in July. We%26#39;re looking for places to go for some food and drinks after the game. It looks like the South Side (East Carson) would be a good destination. Can we get there by subway/rail? Or should we be thinking taxi? Thanks for your help.

Glad you%26#39;re coming to Pittsburgh! Are you staying at a hotel that has a shuttle? That might be your best bet. Taxi service in Pittsburgh is not what you are used to in a large city. You%26#39;ll have to take the cab service number with you and call when you want to come home. If you%26#39;re bringing a car, you could also drive over, and park in the South Side Works parking lot - otherwise finding a space will be near impossible.
The South Side is great, but the later it gets the more it gets a college-bar atmosphere. You don%26#39;t say how old you are...if you want to party all night, the South Side is a great place to go. If you just want to grab a bite and have a few drinks, you could stick to some of the bars surrounding PNC- Atria%26#39;s, Jerome Bettis%26#39; bar, or even some of the bars across the bridge downtown like Olive or Twist, or Seviche.

The South Side is fun, great people watching, but don%26#39;t discount Station Square. There are a lot of different places, and walking along the riverwalk at night is gorgeous.
If you plan on staying at the Sheraton, you can take the ferry across to the North Shore for the game and back after.
Thanks Penzgirl and Gypsy - your comments are helpful. We%26#39;re a group of six - 2 uncles, 4 cousins spanning the ages from 20 to 50. We%26#39;ll be staying at Springhill Suites. Just looking for a fun atmosphere after the game and to see things that are ';uniquely Pittsburgh';. We%26#39;ll be in town from Friday mid day to Sat. evening. Looking forward to seeing your city.
Be sure to go up the incline - you can get there from Station Square, which anyone should be able to direct you to. Also, if you%26#39;re going to be there on a Saturday morning, I would suggest visiting the Strip District - a real Pittsburgh ';scene.'; Good luck, let us know how things turn out.
Though it%26#39;s a great ballpark, unfortunately, unlike in other cities, PNC Park isn%26#39;t really convenient to ';after-game nightlife.'; BUT I did just find another thread here full of good info. (Hope this link works.)

Thanks everyone for your advice on travelling to Pittsburgh. We just got back from our weekend trip, and had a great time.
Wound up getting a good deal and stayed at the Omni William Penn - a classic grand hotel. Spectacular fireworks display after the game Friday night. Took in some Southside nightlife on Friday, and had fun in The Strip on Saturday morning, including the best breakfast I think I%26#39;ve ever had while travelling(at Pamela%26#39;s). Finished up with a ride on the Dusquesne Incline.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Pittsburgh!! I%26#39;d like to come back and spend more time.
Moose, thanks for coming back and letting us know you had a great time!
