To anyone who can give any insight....
We arrive in Philadelpia on a flight that arrives at midnight. Our next flight to the Carribean doesn%26#39;t depart until 7:30 the next morning. My questions are: is there a hotel close enough to the airport to warrant paying for a few hours of sleep? Are there smoking areas in the airport? Will there be anywhere to get anything to drink or eat at that hour? Is there somewhere before the security check in to catch some zzzz%26#39;s? Thanks in advance for your help! I am getting a little anxious over this long layover. Since our layover is more than 4 hours we need to retrieve our baggage and recheck before our am flight. So we will have luggage to deal with as well.
Long overnight layover in Philadelphia Airport
There is a hotel IN the airport- a Marriott. It is attached to Terminal B- you don%26#39;t even need to go outside. Don%26#39;t know about smoking areas- maybe in one of the bars- otherwise, no.
Long overnight layover in Philadelphia Airport
There also are many hotels near the airport. All of them would be less expensive than the Marriott at the airport, but maybe not as nice or as convenient as well. Type in Philadelphia airport hotels in the search box on TA for more info. Honestly, I would seriously consider staying/sleeping at the Marriott if only for the convenience.
Like the previous posted mentioned, there are many hotels around the airport (5-minute car ride).
Regarding food, there%26#39;s a Dennis%26#39; (24-hours) right by the Philadelphia Airport Gateway Hotel (previously a Holiday Inn but now a Quality Hotel). There%26#39;s also a Ramada hotel right across the street.
One more thing...
7.5 hours is really not a long layover when it is overnight. If you are scheduled to arrive at midnight, by the time you land and arrive at the gate -which can take a while in PHL due to the high traffic volumes- then claim your luggage arrive at the hotel, it%26#39;ll probably already be 1:00am. If you grab a bite and/or drink, then you%26#39;ll probably be finished by 2:00am.
Beings that your flight departs at 7:30am, you should be at the airport around 5:30am, which leaves you with a resting time of only 3.5 hours.
Like my fellow Flight Attendants used to say when we had a layover similar to yours: ';sleep fast!';.
Thank you all so much for your suggestions. I was thinking that a hotel may not be worth the cost. The ';sleep fast'; remark really made me chuckle. We are obviously not very seasoned travelers so your advice is appreciated. I think we%26#39;ll just throw a small blanket in our carry on and snooze at the airport. Maybe run over to Denny%26#39;s and have a good breakfast at say 3 or 4 am. HAHA!!! Thanks to all.
Just so know, Dennis is about a 5-7 minutes car ride from the airport. I%26#39;m not sure how much a taxi will charge you (probably less than $20). But the Septa bus #37 stops right in front of Dennis and takes you right back to the airport.
The bus is $2.50 per person. Check the web site for run times.

Paris,
Thank you for all the great information. You have been very helpful.
Get a USAirways affinity credit card, get a free pass for their airport lounge-very nice in Philly-and hang out there, catching some rest on the large couches and chairs until the morning.
