I will be attending a convention next May in Pittsburgh and all the hotels in the downtown area seem to be very expensive! I like to stay in the Residence Inn but it%26#39;s almost $100 per night more that the one I have just stayed in in Portland. My question is, is there a nice area that is by a train station that could have cheaper hotels? I am from overseas and will not have a car.
Hotels convenient to convention centre or train station
Where is your convention at, at the Convention Center or is it a small place/hotel somewhere in the city?
If you would like to try it, you could use priceline and try to name your own price. Any of the 4 star hotels downtown are close to just about everywhere.
Pittsburgh really doesn%26#39;t have an extensive subway system. We do have the ';T'; that goes a few places. I%26#39;m really not all that familiar with it though, so hopefully someone else can help you, but I doubt you%26#39;ll be able to stay anywhere near a T stop.
My recommendation, if you don%26#39;t want to use priceline, is to stay near the airport. There are cheaper hotels in Coraopolis and Moon like Super 8, Days Inn, Holiday Inn, etc.
Now you%26#39;d have to look, but I%26#39;m sure most those places provide a courtesy shuttle to the airport. Then, from the airport, there is a bus called the Airport Flyer that would then bring you into downtown. So take the courtesy shuttle to the airport and hop on the bus and it%26#39;ll take you downtown.

Thank you for that. The convention centre is David L. Lawrence Convention Center. There may be evenings when we will need to return to our hotel in the dark and we are two ladies.
I figured you meant the Convention Center, but just wanted to make sure.
If you do the ones downtown through pricline, you could get a taxi. Just take their number with you, because it%26#39;s not like New York where taxi%26#39;s are everywhere.
As for the bus, like I said, hopefully someone will be able to tell you if it will drop you off right there. I would assume that it would because I would think alot of people would go from the airport to the convention center, but Pittsburgh and public transportation don%26#39;t mesh well together.
The 28X Airport Flyer will drop you downtown in the Market Square area, which is only a few block walk to the Convention Center.
I also suggest Priceline, although trying to book a room this early you may not get much of a deal.
The airport area has several nice hotels, but do look at the area called Greentree - it is right outside downtown and most all of those hotels will have a courtesy shuttle to downtown.
The Doubletree downtown is good and is across the street from a ';T'; stop.
Additionally, they have a free shuttle that will take you anywhere downtown (inside the rivers) including the convention center.
